The prosecutors and the Anti-Corruption Commission-ACC lawyers are not seeing the possibility of Begum Zia`s release before the final settlement of the Zia orphanage case in the High Court. The Supreme Court`s Appellate Division has ordered the settlement of the appeal hearing of the Orphanage scam case in the High Court by July 31. The government lawyers think that it is impossible to get bail in 6 cases during these two and a half months.
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam said, "Begum Zia will have to go to the lower court first for the six cases against her. If the lower court gives bail, then the government will appeal against it. If the lower court does not give bail then Begum Zia`s lawyers will appeal against it. It is a matter of long process." The Attorney General thinks that the High Court will continue her (Begum Zia) sentence in the merit of Zia Orphanage case. He said, "In this case, as a lawyer, I do not see any possibility of her acquittal." The Attorney General also added, "I think there is no chance of Begum Zia`s release now."
