Today is a special day in the history of Bangladesh as its founding father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s daughter Sheikh Hasina returned to the country on May 17, 1981, after a long exile.
Her father along with other family members was brutally murdered on August 1975. Fortunately, Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehna were not in Bangladesh that day. They were in Germany and survived the killing of her family.
When Sheikh Hasina put her first step on the soil of her motherland, thousands of people gathered from Kurmitola International Airport to Sher-E-Bangla Nagar despite the weather was not favorable. The thundering sky and storm on the backdrop of her homecoming were perhaps foretelling that the revenge of Bangabandhu’s killing is here.
Since her return, the country saw great progress in leadership, vision, and public welfare activities. The per capita income has increased and at the same time, the poverty level has dropped visibly. Big projects like Padma Bridge is being implemented with its own funding. And a few days ago, the nation’s dream satellite Bangabandhu-1 was sent to the orbit. Moreover, to see a happy and prosperous country, she has taken ‘Vision 2021’ and ‘Vision 2041’.
This will be 38th Homecoming Day of Sheikh Hasina who is currently the President of Awami League and Prime Minister of Bangladesh. Therefore, the country will observe the day in a festive manner.
After her return to the country, she was elected as the president of AL on February 16, 1981.
The ruling party AL has chalked out various program to celebrate the homecoming day of its party president.
