After the polling in Khulna City Corporation (KCC), the counting of votes is going on. Although the final results are yet be announced, the results from the polling centers are indicating that the Awami League candidate Talukdar Abdul Khalek is ahead with a big margin. So far, the unofficial results of 286 centers have been published. According to the latest announcement, Awami League mayor candidate Talukdar Abdul Khalek got 1 lac 76 thousand 902 votes, and BNP`s Nazrul Islam Manju has got 1 lac 8 thousand 956 votes.
Awami camps have started cheering after getting the glimpse of the victory. And the frustration of defeat has gripped BNP candidate Monju`s camp. The same situation has also been seen among the workers of three other mayor candidates.
The number of voters in Khulna City Corporation elections was 4 lac 93 thousand 93. The total numbers of polling stations were 289. Of these, in two centers the voting was held through Electronic Voting Machines (EVM). The results of these two centers were announced. The AL candidate won in one center and the BNP candidate holds the victory in the remaining center.
The vote was canceled in one center on the charge of casting fake votes and voting in two centers and a booth was postponed. Besides, it has been reported that a BNP camp has been vandalized.
At 8 am on Tuesday, voting started at 289 centers in Khulna City and it took place until 4pm. Five candidates contested for the mayoral post and 39 candidates in 10 reserved wards and 148 candidates in 31 general wards have contested in the KCC elections.
