Compromise between Tarique and government?

`Tarique Rahman does anything if he is offered a satisfactory amount of money. Perhaps this is the way how he has compromised with the government. The government will no longer put pressure on the foreign diplomats to bring Tarique back to the country and on the other hand, Trique will manage BNP in such a way that the victory of Awami League is guaranteed.’

A top leader of BNP made the above statement, who distanced himself from all kinds of political activities due to his physical illness. He said, ‘Tarique boycotted the general election of 2014 after getting a huge amount of money. Because who boycotts from general election after winning in six city corporations elections? He confessed From his deathbed after getting a serious kidney disease, ‘Boycotting the election was suicidal. If BNP had joined the election, it would have won the election for sure.’ According to him, ‘BNP will possibly join the election this time. But it would be after a compromise. This time BNP will take part in the election not to get into power but to legitimize the government.’

Controversy has been prevailing in BNP since the senior leader of BNP made the remark. The BNP leaders are trying to connect dots after this bizarre episode. Many BNP men are saying that Tarique invited Barrister Moudud Ahmed to London dropping names of other senior BNP leaders. Moudud is understood to be a compromising and disloyal politician. He is the number one in line when it comes to the matter of changing a political party. The BNP leaders said, Tarique should have called the general secretary or Abdul Awal Mintoo, who has been very loyal to him. Everyone knows about the distance between Tarique and Moudud. When Tarique held secret talks with that leader, the BNP leaders said that they understood what was going on.

A BNP leader said, ‘When the Prime Minister visited London, the issue of bringing Tarique back to the country became very intense. However, look now, everything has calmed down all of a sudden. The government is no longer talking anything about Tarique Rahman. Why?’ When contacted in London, it has been found that the government sent three letters to the British government regarding bringing Tarique back. However, the Bangladeshi High Commission in the UK is not doing anything visible to convince the British government. Therefore, the UK government is also doing nothing about this. Not only this, the Bangladeshi High Commission in London is not raising the matter of the attack on its office. During the visit of the prime minister to the UK, three cases were filed on behalf of Awami League. There is also no progress in those cases.

People are whispering within BNP that Tarique has compromised with the government. In the legal battle, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia may not participate in the election. In that case, Tarique Rahman will direct the party to join the election and do his nomination business in his own way. He will select such candidates that they will surely lose against the ruling party candidates. Even the BNP leaders raised a point, the argument of the 21 August grenade attack case has not ended in six months. They claimed ‘Tarique Rahman has been managed.’ And for that reason, there is no news of the movement From BNP and the government is also not looking worried.
