Five former officials of Oriental Bank get 68-year imprisonment

 

Five former officials of Oriental Bank Limited, now known as ICB Islami Bank, receives each 68 years of imprisonment and fine of Tk 4.12 crore each in four corruption cases by a court. Judge Md Akhteruzzaman of the Special Judges announced the verdict Court-5.

Former senior vice president of the bank Shah Md Harun, former senior assistant vice president Abul Kashem Mohammadullah, former SEVP Mahmuda Hossain, former EVP Kamrul Islam and former deputy managing director Fazlur Rahman were awarded 68 years jail each.

The convicts are now on the run. Therefore, the court issued an arrest warrant against them.

AVP Torikul Islam and client Salauddin, other bank officials, also received 17-year imprisonment in other two cases. However, former executive officer Inamul Haque has been acquitted of the charges. 

The four cases were filed in 2006 for embezzling Tk 4 crore in the name of loan disbursement and the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) submitted charge sheet in the cases in 2013.
