‘The game is still on’

BNP leaders said that although the quota reform movement is over for now, the government is in danger. Several BNP leaders said, ‘The game is still on’ and new threat awaits the government. BNP has moved to backfoot after the audio tape of the conversation between BNP acting chief Tarique Rahman and Professor Mamun. Not just the workers of BNP, but also the leaders have become frustrated. But, a phone call from London has again relieved hope for the BNP leaders and workers. Tarique personally contacted with a member of the standing committee of BNP. He said to them, ‘The quota reform movement is not over yet. The movement will take a new turn soon.’ On the condition of anonymity, a BNP leader said, ‘New issue is coming for us. It is a very popular issue and it will attract a huge number of people I believe.’

BNP standing committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said, ‘The popularity of the government has plummeted to its lowest point. Therefore, there is no need to conspire against the government. A big movement will begin on its own. The government successfully distracted the students from their movement. However, it is not possible to deceive the people repeatedly.’

Sources said BNP-Jamaat tried to instigate the movement anew. It has been reported that both parties met on several occasions. On the other hand, the incident of three protesters being allegedly picked up by detectives and later being released has raised the possibility to begin the movement again.

Not only just the students, BNP is conspiring with the officers and workers of the Secretariat. BNP is non-stop trying to provoke the government employees. The intelligence agencies of the country sent messages warning that the employees who have been ‘deprived’ in the secretariat may turn dangerous.

A new sign of the non-government school teachers has also been sensed regarding their salary and pension. For the last two weeks, the teachers were discussing different issues among themselves.

Reliable sources in BNP said, Tarique is plotting a new blueprint to gather employees of different sectors and the students. A leader of BNP said that the country will no longer remain as the same after the Eid. He also said, ‘We’d stepped back for strategic reasons. Now we will move two steps forward. Wait and see what happens next.’

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said, ‘The main objective of BNP is to conspire against the government. They have been conspiring since 2008. However, because of having no public support, they failed to succeed.’
