Today (Sunday) a train was derailed in Tongi and claimed at least three lives as many passengers were on the roof of the train, reports UNB. The details of the dead passengers could not be known.
The police of Kamalapur Government Railway Police (GRP) said a Dhaka-bound ‘Commuter Train’ from Jamalpur derailed in the area, leaving three of its passengers who were traveling on its roof dead on the spot.
The accident also snapped rain communication of Dhaka with others parts of the country except for Narayanganj.
Meanwhile, Railways Minister Mujibul Haque went to visit the spot.
“I have heard four people were killed falling from train roof after being panicked following the derailment of a bogy of the train,” the minister told reports at his secretariat office just after the accident.
A three-member investigation committee was formed to probe the derailment.
Bangladesh Railway Director General Amzad Hossain said the probe committee, headed by Chandan Kanti Dey, Chief Signal Telecom of Bangladesh Railway, will submit their report within three days.
The other members of the committee are Ariful Islam, (East) Chief engineer, Mizanur Rahman, Chief Technical engineer.
