The Supreme Court`s Appellate Division has stayed Begum Zia`s bail in Zia Orphanage Trust case until Sunday. On Wednesday a bench of four judges of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain passed the stay order.
Earlier on Monday, Begum Zia was given bail for four months from the High Court, but the ACC (Anti-Corruption Commission) and prosecution`s appeal in the Supreme Court deferred her bail. Meanwhile, one of Khaleda`s lawyers on Tuesday said, "Chamber Judge did not stay her bail. She must wait one more day to get released."
Begum Zia`s lawyers complained that the ACC and the prosecution had appealed only to delay Begum Zia`s release. They think the bail order will remain effective in the Appellate Division as well.
