‘Let sir resign first, we will follow him’

The three cabinet members from of Jatiya Party did not agree to resign from their ministerial position even Hussain Muhammad Ershad and Rowshan Ershad told them to. One of them said to Ershad, ‘Sir, you are our leader. Therefore, you should also lead us in resigning from the government.’ On condition of anonymity, a minister of JP said, ‘Our party chairman is Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina`s special emissary. If he resigns now, we would do the same with the next 5-minute.‘

It is to be noted that in the concluding speech of the winter session of the National Parliament, the JP’s co-chairman and opposition party leader, Rowshan Ershad expressed his desire to the PM to withdraw her ministers from the cabinet. Following this, after two days later Ershad said in Rangpur during a press briefing, ‘The resignation of the ministers of JP is now a matter of time only.’ The PM made it clear that she would accept resignation request of the JP.

Following this, Rowshan asked the three ministers to submit their resignation letter on Thursday. But no one followed her direction. On the contrary, they have counter proposed Ershad to step down from his emissary to the PM post.

State Minister for Labour and Employment Mujibul Haque Chunnu, State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperative Alhaj Mashiur Rahman Ranga and Minister for Forest and Environment Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud are the three cabinet members of JP.
