BNP going through financial crisis

BNP has been going through a financial crisis while running a three-day movement. The businessmen affiliated with the party are no longer providing donations and adequate monetary help. Sources close to the BNP said that there is severe possibility that the ongoing movement might go astray as the party has insufficient funds to run further programs.

BNP`s chief financial helpers are Amir Khasru, Abdul Awal Mintoo and Morshed Khan. Among them, Morshed Khan is a fugitive. Even though Amir Khasru and Abdul AwalMintu have contributed to some extent, other businessmen who support BNP are not giving any donations to the party.

The party has already made contact with its stakeholders but none of them are willing to pay any money to BNP. Some aren`t giving money over the issue of intelligence surveillance.

BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia has been in jail since Thursday following a five-year jail sentence in the Zia Orphanage corruption case. The BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced a three-day demonstration program on Saturday demanding her release. According to the announced schedule, BNP had formed a human chain on Monday, a sit-in-strike on Tuesday. And on Wednesday the party will observe hunger strike from 9 am to 5 pm.

Following the declaration, the human chain program was held on Monday, but it was limited within Dhaka only. Today even though BNP in doing a sit-in-strike, a lesser number of people joined the program in comparison to the last day`s protest. Political analysts are raising question about the strength of BNP in bringing people for tomorrow’s hunger strike especially at a time when BNP is facing a severe financial crisis.
