On 8 October night a boat which was carrying Rohingya people, including a woman and children, was capsized in the Naf river of Taknaf upazila. The police report states that the death toll has reached to 12 up until now, reports UNB.
The report also says that the boat was overcrowded and among the 12 Rohingyas, there were five children, an elderly woman and six men.
For rough weather, the boat overturned in the river on Sunday night between 9 to 10 pm in the Shah Porir Dwip, says Teknaf Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge Mainuddin Khan.
So far, around 145 Rohingyas have died of boat capsize while feeling from their homeland to Bangladesh, says the officer.
Sona Ali, who is the local Awami League leader, has said that the Rohingyas were entering Bangladesh from Naikkhondia of Rakhine.
